Legitimacy
Legitimacy is a deep assurance that we are sent by our Father God, and that He is backing us with His resources on an assignment to a particular people, place and time. Legitimacy is different from knowing our identity in Christ. Our identity is secure when we know we are born-again sons of God. Our place in community is secure when we know our legitimacy.
What makes us legitimate and why is it such a big deal?
"I am one who testifies for myself; my other witness is the Father, who sent me." John 8:18
This statement by Jesus is about legitimacy. The bottom line is all you need to be legitimate are two witnesses: yourself and Father God! Jesus knew who He was here in the earth. He knew to whom He had come. He knew He was in the right place at the right time. And, most of all, He knew His Father had sent Him on assignment with all the resources of heaven needed to complete that assignment. He did not need a third witness!
Will you and I attain that same level of legitimacy? Maybe or maybe not, but we can surely set it as a goal. What would it take to rest in that level of legitimacy? Only Father God can answer the questions we have about our legitimacy, but these point us towards His answers...
