Getting to Know My Spirit
"His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires." 2 Peter 1:3-4

Our spirits were created in the image of Father God, and Father sent us from eternity into time and space at just the right place and time into just the right family appropriate for us to complete our assignment in the earth.
Father is magnificently creative, wise, complex and full of truth, light, and love. So are our spirits! Just as light can be separated into various colors, so can we get to know the various portions, gifts, and functions of our spirits. Gifts of our spirit are listed in Romans 12 as Prophet, Servant, Teacher, Exhorter, Giver, Ruler and Mercy. These gifts can match up with the colors of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. Did you know that you or another can talk with your spirit? Here are some conversations I've heard:
A mother concerned about her child, grieving the loss of his father:
-
Her spirit: "I see my son's spirit crying. He is crushed and sad."
-
Friend: "What can you do to help him?"
-
Her spirit: "I'll ask Holy Spirit to put a warm blanket of comfort around him."
Someone struggling with fear:
-
Her friend: "Spirit, can you look around and tell me what you see."
-
Her spirit: "I see little demons of fear around her (her soul) biting her."
-
Her friend: "Spirit, what do you have you can use to deal with these demons?"
-
Her spirit: "I have a sword in my right hand." Spirit uses it to drive away the demons. The lady immediately says she no longer feels afraid.
Little girl talking with her grandmother:
-
Grandmother: "Spirit, how are you doing today?"
-
Girl's spirit: "I'm fine, but you need to set up a zoom call with my cousins. God wants us to pray for their church."
-
Grandmother: "Okay. What do you need to pray about?"
-
Girl's spirit: "God wants them to let Him in. He wants to put gold in the church."
To get to know your spirit, ask a friend to work with you. Ask them to speak directly to your spirit, and then step aside and allow your spirit to speak aloud to your friend. Your friend can say, "Spirit, I call you to attention. Can you come to the front and talk with me?" Wait for a response.
Sometimes our spirits have been so neglected and misunderstood, we first need to assure them that we recognize their value as God sees them. Your friend can bless your spirit:
"Spirit, I bless you. I recognize that you came from Father God in heaven, that you are of Him, that you look like Him, created in His image. You have the divine nature of God in you, and you are wonderfully made from the substance of God. Thank you for speaking with me today. I very much would like to get to know you."
