Overcoming Shame with Love
And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” Matthew 3:16
Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4:4

Only our Father can show us who we really are. Adam and Eve had allowed the tree-of- deciding-for-themselves-what-was-right-and-wrong to define them and they came up short. Jesus came to restore all things, including who we are and our redeemed identity free from shame. The tempter asked Jesus to prove He was the Son of God by turning stones into bread. Jesus refused. Basically He said, "I am who I am because My Father told me. I don't need to prove anything!"
Father had earlier said, "This is my Son, whom I love." When you and I accept this truth of being His son, whom He loves, we no longer need to prove ourselves. But only the Father can tell us that. We can't just read it off a page or hear someone else say it. Our identity and legitimacy has to come directly from our Father. But when He says it, that settles it!
Here's where the revelation from the Word can help. When we take communion, we eat Jesus, who is the Word, the Bread of Life. Find the scriptures that mean the most to you about your identity. The fundamental issue is will you believe the lie that you are not like God? Will you believe the lie that He is withholding good from you? The truth is the Word of God. When you eat this truth, it will set you free.
